Undergoing one of the most dramatic transformations in the state of Iowa, Ottumwa's Main Street is a real success story. What some described as a former "bombed-out disaster area," Ottumwa's Main Street is once again a place of pride. A string of new facades has made it a welcoming place in the community, hosting thousands of people for various events. This renewed sense of community in Ottumwa's heart has sent shockwaves throughout the city. However, hidden from the public, behind the new facades is an even bigger project; the development of 22 new upper-story housing units. In order to document this historic transformation, both in physical buildings and the renewed sense of community, I was contracted to photograph Main Street Ottumwa's progress in 2016. To help raise community awareness of the progress and future of Main Street, I also had the distinct opportunity to produce a short video for public display and their 2016 banquet.
